How to Get Around Seoul
Navigating Seoul can be overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time exploring this city. However, once you learn how to get around, public transportation becomes easy.
One of the best ways to travel around Seoul is to take the subway. Seoul’s metro system is the undisputed king of urban exploration.
With 22 lines and over 300 stations, it efficiently whisks you to your destination with minimal fuss.
Download the Seoul Metro app – your map to subway mastery. It even displays real-time train arrival information and helps plan your journey.
To make your metro journey easier, make sure to pick up a T-money card at the airport or nearby convenience stores.
Buses can be a bit more tricky to navigate, but the fares are even cheaper than the subway, starting at ₩1,100. Tap in with your T-money card for a smooth ride.
Taxis are readily available and convenient, especially late at night or for short distances, but they can be pretty pricey. Flag one down on the street or call for one through a mobile app Kakao Taxi.
Day 1: Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukchon Hanok Village
Start your 5 day itinerary in Seoul with the Gyeongbokgung Palace. This palace is the largest and most majestic of Seoul’s five royal palaces.

In the afternoon, stroll through the charming Bukchon Hanok Village, a maze of traditional Korean houses with tiled roofs and wooden facades.
Sample street food from local vendors, browse quaint shops for souvenirs and learn about Korean culture at a traditional teahouse.
To enhance your cultural experience, don’t miss out on renting a Hanbok!
Day 2: N Seoul Tower and Dongdaemun Design Plaza
Soar to new heights at N Seoul Tower, the city’s tallest structure, and soak in panoramic views of the sprawling metropolis. Write a love letter and lock it on the tower’s railings, a popular tradition among Korean couples.
In the evening, head to the iconic Dongdaemun Design Plaza, a futuristic architectural marvel that houses trendy shops, cafes, and art exhibitions.
Immerse yourself in the city’s thriving design scene and browse the latest fashion trends.
Day 3: Gwangjang Market and Korean BBQ
Dive into the vibrant atmosphere of Gwangjang Market, one of Seoul’s oldest and largest traditional markets.
Sample an array of Korean delicacies, from savory kimchi pancakes to tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and shop for local crafts and souvenirs.
In the evening, indulge in a classic Korean BBQ experience. Grill your own meats and vegetables at your table, savor side dishes like kimchi and japchae (glass noodles), and wash it all down with Korean Soju.
Day 4: DMZ and Hongdae
Explore the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) along the border with North Korea and learn about the Korean War at the poignant War Memorial Museum. Stand on the observation deck and peer into the mysterious and closed-off country.
In the evening, immerse yourself in the youthful energy of Hongdae, Seoul’s trendiest neighborhood.
Browse street art stalls, catch a live music performance, and shop for unique fashion finds in the eclectic boutiques.
