A Fun Travel Guide to Orlando and Kissimmee
Our recent trip to Florida ended with a couple days of exploring new and old places in Orlando and Kissimmee. We were still able to make the most of our trip even without the famous theme parks.
I purposefully didn’t include the popular theme parks like Universal Studios just in case you’re not looking to empty your wallet and find not-so popular things to do.
The best part about Florida is that there are a ton of free attractions and things to do. So if you’re looking for hang-out places, this travel guide to Orlando and Kissimmee might be up your alley!
Things to do in Orlando and Kissimmee
1. Old Town
Old Town is a place that comes to life at night in Kissimmee, Florida. Even though Old Town is considered a theme park, the shops and restaurants are the main highlight of the town.
The classic Florida town was on the brink of fading away but over the last couple of years, Old Town has grown to adapt to the changing times.
Some of the old stores are still there but a lot of them have been replaced by diverse restaurants and modern shops.
It is only a few minutes away from Disney World and the other theme parks. One of the perks of Old Town is seeing car shows from the 60s to the present day.
Might be one of the most famous places on this travel guide to Orlando and Kissimmee!
2. ICON Park
Locals will definitely tell you to check out ICON Park for the endless amount of activities for the whole family. Just like Old Town, the park has shops, restaurants, and amusement park rides.
You must also look into the observation wheel at ICON Park to see Disney World and the rest of the theme parks from a bird’s eye view!
If you choose not to purchase a play pass, you can always stick to shopping and eating. Regardless of what you choose to do, eating great cuisine is a must.
3. Celebration
A place that always reminds me of a town out of a Hallmark movie, Celebration was created by the Walt Disney Company in the 20th century. Now, you can drive by and soak in the charming houses and streets.
There are plenty of places to park alongside the street if you want to grab a bite to eat or explore the artsy boutiques. The whole area is safe enough to walk around with beautiful views of condos and higher-end homes.
Moreover, you can also take a self-guided tour or participate in one of the annual events. Add Celebration to your travel plans for Orlando.
4. Universal CityWalk
Universal CityWalk in Orlando offers an energetic atmosphere with live shows alongside restaurants and shops. A place to relax, play golf, and enjoy the night lights.
If you’re just strolling through, you do have to pay for parking but if you’re staying in the resort, you can easily walk over. Universal CityWalk is the central place to get to the theme parks.
5. Disney Springs
What used to be called Downtown Disney, Disney Springs is heaven for all those obsessed with pop culture.
With the famous Disney and Lego Stores, shopping is never boring. Besides the mega-themed stores, there are also fun restaurants to enjoy including Rainforest Cafe, Planet Hollywood, and Splitsville.
Although the food is expensive, the experience will last a lifetime.
Even if you aren’t a big fan of Disney, there are shops such as Zara and Uniqlo to fulfill your wishlist. You are required to park in a garage but it is free.
That’s it! I will always enjoy reliving moments by shopping and eating out in some of these iconic attractions in Florida!
