The Best Photo Worthy Places in Virginia
While traveling around Virginia, I have come across quite a few locations with charming buildings and landscapes with a ton of history.
From nature to downtown murals, this list is sure to have places that you’re interested in.
Here are the best photo-worthy places in Virginia!
1. Old Town Alexandria
A place buzzing with history and small businesses, Old Town Alexandria has charming hidden gems and many of them are perfect photo opportunities.
- Murals
- Historic Buildings & Architecture
- Boardwalk
- Colorful Houses
- Alleyways
2. Downtown Lynchburg
A lesser-known location in Virginia, but it’s filled with beautiful spots. People might know Lynchburg to be a college town and nothing much else; however, the buildings and parks draw people from all over.
- Percival’s Island
- Downtown area
- Love sign
- Old buildings & cobblestone streets
3. Maymont Park
I have to admit that Maymont is quite popular in Virginia for its gardens, especially the Japanese garden.
The location in Richmond is actually a place that wedding photographers take advantage of. But don’t worry, you don’t have to wait in line to take awesome photos here.
- Maymont Mansion
- Japanese Garden
- Italian Garden
- Water Fountain
4. Sherando Lake
Sherando Lake is a popular vacation spot for Virginia residents. Even if you aren’t from Virginia, it is worth visiting.
For the longest time, I thought the lake was beautiful during the summer. But Sherando Lake in the fall also creates stunning photos.
- Cabin
- Lake
- Pavilion
- Bridges
5. Natural Bridge State Park
Natural Bridge State Park is one of the most iconic places in Virginia. The park is one of the few places where many tourists visit every year.
Even though it’s popular, you can still create gorgeous photos. Natural Bridge is known for its arch-shaped rock.
6. Blackburn Inn
An asylum-turned hotel, Blackburn Inn is a staple location in Staunton. The best part about this inn is that you don’t have to book outside photos. I would recommend staying the night for inside photos.
- Architecture
- Creek
- Fountain
- Pavilion
7. Blue Ridge Mountains
There isn’t a particular spot for great photos as there are many lookout places to stop and capture the Blue Ridge Mountains.
But my favorite is a place called Rockfish Gap as there are fewer people.
8. Wintergreen Resort
Ready for an adventure in the mountains? Wintergreen Resort has some of the prettiest mountain views and fall foliage.
To take advantage of this photo worthy place, make sure to reserve a few nights at the Mountain Inn. The most popular time of the year is winter so plan wisely.
9. Blue Ridge Tunnel
A place where all of the locals go for quite the adventure. Blue Ridge Tunnel is truly a tunnel that seems to stretch for miles.
It is advised to visit in the early mornings and to wear the right clothes if you plan on going inside. But the outside of the tunnel is stunning.
10. Downtown Staunton
A town that’s been around forever, Downtown Staunton is still a go-to when it comes to taking photos for events. The colorful buildings and the train tracks are some of the most photo worthy spots.
- Old buildings
- Old train car
- Train Station
- Railroad track
- Bridge
11. Yorktown
Yorktown is near Williamsburg but is generally less crowded. Although, you can still find history and wonderful photo opportunities. The York River State Park is my favorite for capturing surreal nature views.
12. The Omni Homestead Resort
I can’t lie and say that this resort isn’t for people who live a luxurious lifestyle. But if you ever get a chance to stay at this hot springs resort, take some photos!
The good thing is that you don’t have to pay to take outdoor photos of the resort. The small town across the street is charming as well. If you come across Hot Springs, Virginia, stop here.
Virginia is often overlooked in terms of places worth visiting and capturing on your camera. This state offers so many memorable trips.
